Johnny Coppin’s All On A Winters Night

Venue: Guildhall

Saturday 22 December 2018: 8.00pm

Coming soon – Johnny Coppin’s All On A WInters Night with Paul Burgess & Dik Cadbury.

One of England’s finest singer/songwriters Johnny Coppin presents a rich mix of traditional carols and new songs, together with stories, folklore and superstitions. Expect a dash of well-written lyrics, some marvelous musicality from three multi-talented artists seasoned with festive memories, warm nostalgia and timeless rustic country customs. Johnny Coppin is a member of the band
Decameron. His solo albums include The Winding Stair, Edge of Day recorded with Laurie Lee, Breaking The Silence with Mike Silver, and the latest release Borderland. He has produced three Christmas albums to date.

Johnny is joined by Paul Burgess on fiddle, recorders and stories along with Dik Cadbury on guitars and vocals. One of the leading exponents of the English style of fiddle playing and a fine reader of stories, Paul Burgess has played with the John Kirkpatrick Band and in TV productions of Far From The Madding Crowd and Wives and Daughters. He also wrote and performed the music for the BBC serial of Cider With Rosie. Dik Cadbury has worked with Decameron, Steve Hackett, and Mike D’Arbo and extensively as a solo artist.

This ever-popular concert continues to delight audiences young and old, with beautiful and evocative projected Winter images by award-winning photographer Martin Fry. There’ll be offerings from the brand new release All On A Winter’s Night and material from his three Christmas albums, featuring new songs as well as original and traditional songs/tunes from Britain, Ireland, France and beyond – including a song from the “War Horse” stage show as well as Johnny’s powerful “Innocents’ Song” – as covered by Show of Hands – one of UK’s most popular duos and winners of many BBC Folk Awards.

“Unbelievably beautiful music …just what you need for Christmas.” – English Song & Dance
