John Martyn’s storied career has seen him release critically acclaimed albums throughout his eventful career, with career highlights such as 1973s’ Solid Air still ranking as one of the finest folk albums ever recorded. His songs, such as May You Never, Solid Air, and Don’t Want to Know, have been covered many times by such luminaries as Eric Clapton, whilst his distinctive guitar style gained him many fans.
The John Martyn Project features some of the finest and most forward-looking musicians on the live scene, with Blythe Pepino, Kit Hawes, Sam Brookes leading the ensemble, and a robust and lyrical rhythm section John Blakely and Jon Short. Each brings their own story and connection to John’s music which adds to the fabric of the overall experience of the project.
This diversity of different musical paths of the musicians recreate the many different aspects and eras of Martyn’s music and is delivered in a sensitive and poignant manner.
