We took a break last year during the uncertainty that was 2020. But with the return of the L2F – The Lichfield Festival of Folk, we are looking forward to getting back to hearing and supporting new song writing.
The competition is open to anyone who has an as yet unpublished, self-penned song, that broadly fits into the global folk tradition (and that’s a pretty broad tradition).
As benefits a “return to a new normal”, we’ve made some slight changes to this year’s competition format, but the essential ingredients remain the same. There are no cash prizes (now that’s very “new normal”) but 10 of the entrants will be invited to perform their song at our Folk Farm Festival Picnic on Sunday 5th September, and 4 of those will be invited to the L2F Festival weekend to perform their song at one of the concerts taking place.
L2F is proud of its continuing commitment to new writing, and the competition is aimed at identifying and promoting song writing. This means that our judges are concentrating on the quality of the song writing not the production values. So, if you have a song in you and you want to share it with a wider audience go to (whererever the entry form rules and ways of paying stuff are) and join the L2F Song Writing competition.
Entry fee is £6.00 for a maximum of 2 songs. (Songs should not be more than 5 minutes long).
Format of entries – We are asking that entries are sent electronically (be it an MP3 file, a link to Youtube, Soundcloud or some other platform).
