The multi-awarded winning and critically acclaimed singer and virtuoso guitarist Martin Simpson will cast his acoustic spell over Lichfield when he appears at the Guildhall on January 14th.
His playing embraces genres ranging from blues to folk, and his own compositions. His slide guitar and his fingerpicking skills are what dazzle the experts, but it is the musicality of his performances that keep the audiences coming back. His interpretations of other people’s material has to be heard live to get the full effect of his affecting vocals and guitar work.
His name is known around the world, and he is always on the road, the calibre the musicians he has worked with include Jackson Browne, Martin Taylor, June Tabor, Richard Hawley, Bonnie Raitt, Danny Thompson, David Hidalgo, Danú, Richard Thompson and Dom Flemons.
He recorded his first album, Golden Vanity in 1976, and his latest one, Home Recordings came out in 2019. He will play a selection of his own songs, and some well-chosen interpretations.
