What better way is there to finish the Autumn 2021 season than with a return from the excellent and popular Roxy Magic? They are the UK’s best and longest-running tribute to the sounds and styles of Roxy Music & Bryan Ferry.
Roxy Music burst onto the scene in the early 1970s with a distinctive blend of rock and ambient textures powered by the creative forces of Bryan Ferry’s vocals and songs. With elegant, futuristic and sometimes eerie sounds and ideas leant by such musicians as Brian Eno, Phil Manzanera, Andy Mackay and many others which led to a series of highly acclaimed and best-selling albums between 1972 and 1982. Songs such as Virginia Plain, Do The Strand and Love Is The Drug still feature regularly on the radio, with the bands early output still sounding remarkably fresh today.
As the band made the transition from glam art rock to a more sophisticated, mature and restrained sound towards the latter part of the 1970s, Ferry’s smooth style, combined with a highly textured and detailed production created the hits Avalon, More Than This, Oh Yeah, Dance Away and their 1981 UK Number One hit Jealous Guy, recorded and released shortly after the death of John Lennon.
Both during and after Roxy Music, Bryan Ferry has enjoyed a varied solo career as both a singer/songwriter and interpreter of other peoples songs. With big hits Slave To Love, Don’t Stop The Dance and Let’s Stick Together, Ferry’s suave style and elegant outfits have secured his place as a leading style icon and continued musical influence. His covers of Bob Dylan in particular, as well as songs from as far back as the 1930s, have given the Ferry repertoire further variety.
Roxy Magic recreate entirely live material that spans four decades of the Ferry/Roxy catalogue, from the early futurist/nostalgic art-rock to classic standards to sophisticated adult-oriented rock. Get ready to Dance Away once again with all of the big hits and a recreation of the excitement and style of one of the most glamourous, daring and innovative bands. Roxy Magic have been thrilling audiences for sixteen years and they aim to give there audience a fabulously entertaining evening. Very high-quality musicianship and a fantastic Bryan Ferry look and sound-alike in singer Kevin Hackett combine to do just that!
