Folk-pop legend Gerry Colvin must be one of the most endearing and energetic musicians on the planet, just as much at home playing small clubs as he is supporting Status Quo on their Aquostic Live Tour.  This multi-talented singer-songwriter performs all his own material, combining catchy melodies with thoughtful lyrics on love, society, angst and Johnny Cash!  His be-suited on stage performance combines Frank Sinatra, Lee Evans, and the afore-mentioned Man in Black.  Genius?  Madcap?  Maverick? Yes, all of these things…and a lot, lot more.

For 15 years Jim Moray has been at the forefront of a new movement in English traditional music. In recent years Jim has collaborated with such folk music luminaries as Andy Cutting, Patsy Reid, Martin Simpson and Nancy Kerr. His debut album Sweet England changed the sound of folk song and won a brace of awards for its innovative melding of orchestration and electronica. Subsequent albums embraced everything from grime to Johnny Marr-esque guitar pop, but at their heart was always Jim’s unmistakeable soulful and yearning voice; singing old songs in a new way.

Kent plays the whole gamut of Blues music, some of which will have you on your feet dancing, others will bring tears to your eyes. A consummate performer, he also tells of the history of the Blues and the men who developed it.

During their time together they have had the honour of Led Zeppelin’s front-man Robert Plant attending three of their gigs and John Bonham’s son, Jason, even jammed with them on stage. These are things the band are very proud of. It must surely also be the best recommendation any band could receive, and also assure any Led Zeppelin fans apprehensive about seeing The Fredz.

On a summer’s day in 2016, the organisers of FolkEast Festival masterminded one of the most intriguing and exciting collaborations on today’s folk scene. Peter Knight, legendary violinist and ex-member of folk-rock band Steeleye Span was paired with leading melodeon player and ex-Bellowhead member, John Spiers, for a special one-off performance which left audiences in awe. The rest as they is history, with a show that incorporates delicate improvisation with brave, ground breaking musicianship. On this special December tour, Peter and John will be incorporating some seasonal music gathered from the English tradition and beyond.
