Lichfield Arts Outreach
ECCO (Explore, Create, Connect) is a three-year, place-based outreach programme launched in 2025 and supported by Lichfield District Council. The programme brings free, welcoming arts activity into communities across Lichfield District, particularly in areas with fewer opportunities to engage with arts and culture.
ECCO delivers a series of family-friendly cultural events in community venues, offering opportunities to take part in live music, music-making, dance, performance, and visual arts. By working directly in local spaces and removing financial barriers, ECCO creates relaxed, inclusive environments where people of all ages could participate, explore creativity, and connect with one another.
ECCO – Explore: Create: Connect – Fradley, 21st March 2026
What a fantastic day we had at our ECCO Filmmaking Workshop in Fradley! A huge thank you to everyone who came along and got involved, it was brilliant to see so much energy, creativity, and enthusiasm in the room. From learning new skills to making new friends, the day was packed with fun and inspiration.
We absolutely loved watching all the amazing films you created, you should be so proud of your work!
Huge thanks to our facilitators: Kirk Allen, Georgina Grocutt, Thomas Purkis, Alfie Johnson and Mark Jones, and to our amazing volunteers on the day: Cathy, Tim, Surjit, Chloe, Rhiannon and Peter.
ECCO is made possible with support from Lichfield District Council — helping us bring engaging, creative, film-focused opportunities to our community.
What was on:
Storyboarding Workshop – Participants watched a short animated film about two astronauts visiting the Moon and explored the real storyboards used to create it. They then imagined what happened next and designed their own storyboard to continue the adventure. Perfect for big ideas, storytelling, and creative thinking.
2D Software Animation – Families received a beginner-friendly introduction to animation and motion graphics. They learned how simple shapes and movement can bring ideas to life on screen, guided step-by-step in an accessible, hands-on session suitable for all skill levels.
Cut-Out Stop Motion – Participants designed, coloured, and animated rockets, spacemen, and aliens using colourful card and simple apps. They had great fun creating their own mini rocket launch film to take home — and picked up skills they could try again anytime.
Fun Filmmaking – Participants discovered how ideas became scenes in this interactive storytelling experience. They explored the basics of filmmaking and took part in creative activities designed to spark imagination and inspire future filmmakers. This session featured two of our Emerging Talent participants, Alfie Johnson and Thomas Purkis.
Lights, camera, creativity… we can’t wait to do it all again!
The programme also strengthens local partnerships, working with community venues, artists, and organisations to ensure activity is rooted in local context and responsive to community interests.
ECCO demonstrates Lichfield Arts’ commitment to widening access and embedding creativity into everyday community life — creating opportunities for people to explore, create, and connect close to home.
